So after looking at the search options, I see that lots of folks will see smoke, and smell gas at start up. Soooo, If I take the air cleaner off and look at the postion of the choke, Will it open all the way as soon as the engine starts??? It never smokes after a couple of minuites of running..

Thanks!
Rick

Your TKS carburetor does not have a choke like a regular carburetor does, It has a TKS "module" that operates a moving plunger to control the amount of air the engine needs at start up, ect, This is controlled basically by engine temperature.

You'll want to see mercruiser service manual #41 for more information about this carburetor.

Proper choke position after initial start 2000 Merc 5.0 TKS Carb.

You will get better help if you state what your actual problem is, than troubleshooting and searching for information on things you don't even have.

Sorry Don, I thought I made it clear that I was getting Smoke and strong fuel smell when I initially start the engine, after maybe one or two miniutes it goes away.

I guess I didn't....

Sounded more like you found others had the problem but not you.
You need to understand that this is not an EFI engine, and the TKS system eliminates the choke, but adds extra fuel and higher rpm at cold startup to help start the engine keep it running. The excess fuel, will cause more smoke when cold, and obviously some unburned fuel and fuel smell.
Below is a link to the service manual for that carb. it will give you troubleshooting information.
