I bought a New Saturn 1331-111-13 & MCTW washer for my 2013 Mercury 40hp 13spline motor. This prop was recommended for my motor on fitting charts. When installed the propeller hub does not fully insert into the gearcase housing, there is about 3/8" gap between the raised hub (lip) diameter and the rear edge of the gear case housing. There is only about 1/8" of the hub inside the gear case housing.

Normally the raised hub diameter (lip) is very close to the rear edge of the gearcase housing.

Is this fit safe to use???>

the gap is just cosmetic but are you sure the hub diameters are the same?

on my motor the charts show props that say fit my motor but the diameters are too small to work correctly so just because its on the list is not what tells you everything, you need to make sure the hub diameter and the blade diameters are the same too.

when they give those lists they are just listing all the props that will bolt on your motor, but it is still up to you to determine which from that list is the right prop size for your application and the specified way you are going to be using it (specific load)

also different makers may fit your housing differently so one might have a small gap and the next a large gap, some have a lip that rides just inside the lower unit housing and some don't, depending on brand.

none of this really answers your question but just because its on the list doesn't mean its correct.

all that being said check your fitting on thrust washers and such to be sure its fully seated in place.

If it fits up inside the gear housing 1/8 inch, it should work in terms of exhaust flow.

How does it fit using the Mercury thrust washer?
