What is the proper setup for the fuel to flow from the boat fuel tank to the outboard motor?

The setup now is: From boat fuel tank to primer ball to fuel filter(water separater) to engine

Should it be: From boat fuel tank to fuel filter( water separater) to primer ball to engine?

Thanks for any help,

I have one of each way set up on my boats and doesn't seem to make a bit of difference: just a matter of preference and space available.

If you have it set up so the primer bulb is on the tank side before the water seperator it's eaiser to fill the canister in the water seperator when you change it.

Make sure the arrow on the primer bulb points towards the engine....

Thanks Problem solved....your right it doesnt matter. A check valve was installed and it is preventing smooth flow of fuel. Valve removed, problem fixed. Arrow is pointing in right direction.
Thanks again everyone
