Have an '06 Bayliner with a 3.0 Merc. I noticed while checking fluid levels before taking the boat out today for its initial run of the year that the reservoir was low. Looked in my book and no mention is made of the proper fluid/weight to put in there. Help please.

You use the same gear lube as what you put in the drive.

Have you been changing the gear lube yearly? Why is it low, did you wonder about that?

I have only changed it initialy after I purchased it, she has about 15 hours on her. I have seen no drops on the floor. I will have to keep an eye on it now. If it does continue to go down what is an acceptable amount? /What is that a symptom of?

No leakage is acceptable, time to pull the drive, drain the gear lube and do a pressure test to find the problem. Ever have the drive off? Check the alignment? Check for leaks?

18 hours in 6 or 7 years is harder on the engine and drive than actually using it.

I have not. But I have a feeling I will be doing so. Thank you for your replies and directions.

I sure hope so, you with a 2006, you are getting to the point that things are going to go downhill fast if you don't start doing some preventive maintenance.

Might want to spend some time in the stickies at the top of this forum or Click Here in case you can't find them. Items 2,10, and 11 are the most important at this point.
