Proper starting for a 50 hp?

As you may know from reading my other post I purchased a 1967 Starcraft last week with a 50 hp. Force on the back of it. What's the proper starting procedure for this motor? I put it in neutral and turn the key and it doesn't fire right away. I push in on the key and the choke closes buy opens back up when I stop pushing in on the key. Should it stay choked? Is there a way to give it "more throttle" without putting it in gear?

It only chokes while you have the key pushed in. You should have a button on the remote that allows you to disengage the shift cable while advancing the throttle. What year is the motor?

Pull the shift lever OUT, while its in neutral position ( it will only come out a little bit), then you can move it foreward OR backward to give it some "fast" idle while it runs a minute to warm up. Mine is an 89, and altho you cant really rev it up far, it does however bring the idle up enough to keep her running.. Dont know what year your engine is, but you can give this a quick try.

My 89 has a button in the middle of the throttle lever body ( the round part that the throttle lever is attached to)
