GOOD NEWS. . . . The PICTURE UPLOAD FUNCTION IS WORKING !!! The tech folks at the parent company have been able to remedy the issue. You can upload pictures once again. Thank you for your patience.
The topic really asks the major question. I have a "Rack and Pinion" cable that needs replacing. Do you measure the entire cable, or from the nut to the end or middle of the rack??? Thanx for the input , Mark.
You remove the cable and look at the numbers on the cable. All cables are marked.

If no numbers are seen - just take cable to ships store, they will match cable.
2nd post
Often if cable is bad, steering head ( gear box) is also stripped.
Check it out. Head and cable kit are about $140. for a 24' IO.

Always say what year-outdrive-engine you have
when posting. List all boat information.
goleft,I did this a few weeks ago,and I think you measure plastic to plastic, and add 30" and round up to next foot,if you change to rotary steering. These kits cost less than relacing your rack cable.
DHP
