can water water get into the lower unit if the nut holding the prop is not real tight? and how tight should it be?<br /><br />thnx,<br />mark

not normally,Mark.<br />The seal is only sealing the shaft at the case. There is sometimes a trust washer,and if it is removed and run without it. The prop can dut-into the bearing carrier,and ruin it. But you'll see signs of this,by shiny metal troughs cut-into it.<br /><br />different outboards have different torque pecs and different locking methods.<br />The shop manual will have the specs fopr it. You might also ask the local marina that sells and services your make/model/year.
