Gary....put the shift rod back in and make sure the the shift lever on the pump is all the way down. Should come out then.

OBJ
i would if it would move it seems to be stuck/froze in neutral. this boat was in storage 10yrs and the shifter was in neutral during storage & had little bit of water in lower end unit.(reason for taking the lower unit apart)
so if the shifter would shift all the way down it would come out? if so what canj be done if it is stuck/froze?

Gary, I think you can get to it with a brass drift punch if you take the shift rod plate off. Try tapping it lightly, very lightly.

walker,
shift plate was first off after the L/unit was removed. just got back in from trying with the shift rod attached again hitting it with with a small ballpin hammer slightly as suggested and no luck:mad:. it seems this is gonna be a task to accomplish. i once again removed the shifter rod and can see the plate thye shifter rod screws into, attempting to hit it with an extention and ballpin hammer.
any other suggestion would help.

Gary....are you sure it's not already all the way down? Did you raise up on the shift rod to see if it was already all the way down? The pump should come out with the prop shaft. Sometimes the pump can be a little "stuck". Try and pull it out evenly after you have determined that the shift lever is all the way down.

Keep trying.....you'll get it.

Re: propshaft wont come out stuck on shifter linkage

OBJ
why do you keep replying to pump? the vertical shaft is outincluding the pinion gear, it's the prop shaft i need out
and yes i know it is stuck/froze in neutral. plus the manual doesn't explain how to remove said propshaft if it's stuck/froze in neutral,
i mean it just won't move at all up or down.
now looking down the hole where the shift rod plat is located at(removed),and the shift rod screws into and pulling the prop shaft at same time, it seems the shift mech is wanting to come out with the prop shaft but stops solid after an inch more or less. this is getting frustrated i reall don't wanna break anything coustly if it's not needed. i know this is due to the salt water that sat in the lower unit while in storage many yrs. (reason for the shift mech being stuck/froze in neutral :( :( :(

It's the "forward gear bearing assembly" you are referring to! The "arm", that the shift rod threads into must be all the way down (reverse) so that the arm clears the housing as you remove the assembly from the case! If it is stuck in anything short of reverse (down), you will have to knock the crap out of it to get the arm to clear!!!!! If you can't get the "clearance", it ain't comming out! If the arm is down, then use a slide hammer, attached to the end of the prop shaft and draw it out! Been there, done that!! Good fun! Remember, it's all about mind over matter!!

Re: propshaft wont come out stuck on shifter linkage

P.V.
i understand the shift needs to be in reverce inorder to remove the prop shaft.so i clears the inner part of the lower unit housing, i guess if it won't shift into reverce i'll have to break something (hopefully it wont be to coustly to replace what ever break's.)
first i will attempt to get it to shift down once again, since i have pre-soaked it in WD-40 over night for the second time.
i'll post again in a bit(hour or so to keep this post informed on the outcome of my situation.
