Protecting the Pontoon Enclosure

We just bought a used (1988) pontoon boat. It came with a canvas enclosure that includes a front, back and sides canvas and vinyl curtains with zippers. We are struggling trying to figure out how to safely lower the enclosure for freeway travel without damaging the curtains. Would it mean unsnapping both sides and back from the boat and rolling up each before lowering the metal structure? Any thoughts?
