I am making my first trip down the Connecticut river into long island sound tomorrow...... I will be putting in in middletown ct so i will be needing a refuel when i reach the sound.

There are a lot of marinas in that area but i am not sure which ones are public and which ones are open...... how do i call a marina on the radio.... its not like they have billboards out on the river so i can call them by name....

Do I just put a call out on low power on channel 16 to see who answers then switch to another channel?

I know i could prob research this to death and figure out an answer for tomorrow but my question is larger than that and applies to any time i may need to find fuel????

Not too sure about your neck of the woods but marinas here in Ohio typically have a sign for fuel and a phone number or hailing channel.

I found a lot of marinas in that area monitor channel 9 but i am just not sure how to call them.....

Do i just say "this is "boat name" in need of fuel calling harbor master of xxx marina please respond"?

Sounds about right. Your fellow boaters might be of some help too.
