Traveled along what has been renamed the "Highway of Heros" yesterday which happened to coincide with the arrival home of three Canadian soldiers that were recently killed overseas. The highway is the route that is taken to bring the fallen soldiers, by way of motorcade, to Toronto from CFB Trenton where they arrive back in Canada. We drove only about 50 miles along this highway over which were probably a dozen or more overpasses over the highway. On EVERY overpass there were crowds of people standing and waiting to pay tribute, waving Canadian flags and banners to honor the fallen soldiers as they passed along the highway below. On numerous bridges, firetrucks were parked with lights flashing and ladders raised flying Canadian flags. Police blocked access ramps to the highway. Hundreds more cars and trucks were parked along side the highway at different points along the way. We eventually decided to get off the highway and join the tribute on one of the overpasses. Some people had been there for hours in the cold and wind, waiting. There were people of all ages. Regardless of whether you believe the fight is warranted or not, to see such a moving tribute makes one proud to be Canadian and puts a lump in your throat and brings tears to your eyes.
