Hello everyone,
I have a 9.9 evinrude I think from mid eighties that has a problem with the pull cord wheel and the main wheel interlocking. The guy started it for me and I watched it run, but when I tried it today I heard a scary noise after two or three pulls.
I think, at least I hope that its just a problem with the pull cord wheel. Its teeth don't reach into the main wheel's teeth. It looks worn down and in need of replacing. I called the guy today and he said he had had to tighten the bolt holding the smaller wheel before when this happened to him. Nice to tell me now.
I'm wondering if this is a common problem, and if its more in depth than I'm thinking.
The thing that really worries me is how much the engine shakes back and forth relative to it's clamps, compared to my 6 hp, though I may just be paranoid. I hope the shaking isnt indictive of a larger underlying problem causing my problem with the fly wheels.
Thanks ahead of time for your advice, you guys are awesome.
