Pull Cord On Johnson 20hp

My dad has a fishing boat with a 20 horse Johnson and I am guessing it is around a 1980. Motor runs great but has one small problem. When you go to start it, the pull cord does not retract itself. <br />Is this hard to fix? We dropped it off at a local shop but I am wondering how much labor is involved or is it something we could have done?>

I had the same problem on a sled, (Assuming they are the same). There is a spring inside those things that can wear out, or it could be feeding itself incorrectly. They are not too hard to fix, but kind of a pain in the ***. That spring was difficult to figure out. Your shop should not charge you too much.
