1970 33hp Evinrude

I have done all the tune up work to bring this motor back to life. Now I discover that my motor stand is not nearly heavy duty enough to hold the motor in place. The main problem is that it raises up off the floor when I pull on the rope. Has anyone ever run into this problem? I may have to buy a boat just to hang it on to get it started. Or maybe attach an extension to the stand that I can drive my pickup on to keep it down. Any ideas?

I built a contraption that had a plank to hook the motor onto and a platform for the water barrel at the same time. Weight of the water will hold it down and also give you a better way to adjust stuff (if need be) because it's running in water rather than on muffs. Or. you could just run out and buy a boat!!

I can relate. I used to have a '62 28hp. Once, I had my son stand on the back end of the stand to keep it from
tipping over when I pulled.

Ha! I put my old 62 28hp on a stand that was way too light for it just to move it around the garage and it ripped that sucker apart. I mean broken aluminum tubes and everything. Those are heavy suckers.

Clamp it on your tail gate and then start it. LOL

i thought of the tailgate trick but don't have muffs and there isnt room for a barrel of water.

i'll post a picture of what has worked enough to get it to fire and run for a second or two. too wet to get out there now. basically its a big trash can full of water on the platform built into the stand with some runners on the bottom to stabilize the near side so the back side can't lift up. its always something. good thing this is only a hobby for me.
