I have a 1991 chaparral 21' with a chevy 350 and the dual prop volvo. My block seems to be locked up so I have it stripped down to a short block and about ready to pull the block out. My question is do I need to remove anything around the fly wheel beside the bell housing bolts. I was told that I may need to remove some more bolts from a "freeze plate" and that you have to rotate the fly wheel to get all of them. If so there lays another problem I cant turn the engine. Any help would be much appricated

you need to pull the drive off (about 30 minutes work). from there, disconnect the wiring, fuel and exhaust. remove the 6 bolts on the PDS housing clamp plate, and remove the 4 lag bolts on the motor mounts. total time is about 75 minutes.

The plate(coupler) and drive shaft can be pulled apart without undoing the bolts on the plate.
Unless the shaft and the coupler are rusted together it should come apart.
I pulled a 260d while in the water to replace the oil pan.
It came apart without any real problems.
It's easier to re-assemble with the drive off.

If you leave the flywheel cover on, this is how it comes out.
