Pulling boat out of long term storage

I tried looking in the FAQ's but there are no topics listed and the search feature ... and I cannot start one...

well here is the question...

In taking a boat that has been in storage for 3-4 years out and getting it running again, is there anything special I should do? The gas was "stabilized" when put up and smells sweet, not sure how much is in the tank, the oil is golden but feels tacky.

Saturday I am going about 150 miles to a friend's lake camp in New Hampshire and getting this boat back up and running.

The boat is a nice craft, was "professionally" winterized after the 2002 season and, due to family circumstances, never put back in the water.

I will be bringing a new battery with me, any suggestions on what I should do before turning the key would be most appreciated!

1st is this an inboard or outboard. either one get rid of the gas, change all lubricants, including lower unit, impeller should be change as it is now very dry and will probably come apart. if not today tomorrow carbs are probably going to have to be cleaned, and maybe rebuilt, fliters changed. just be prepared

Re: Pulling boat out of long term storage

Sorry
I know better...
It is a Merc I/O 140 HP (3.0 liter)
Not sure how I am going to get rid of the gas...
siphon adequate?
pull a fuel line? no wait that would require me to crank the engine, it is a mechanical fuel pump.

can change the oil no prob...

impeller... hmmmmmm didn't think of that.
actually... never did, or needed to do an impeller on my other 140. Since I do not have the #'s here how universal is the impeller part on the 140's? Can I grab one here before I go or will I need to know the serial # of the engine?
