Hey all I posted recently on my blowing a trim hose on my lower unit. This is in addition to that unfortunetally.

I have been told that the likleyhood of being able to remove the hose from the transfer casing is not good since its an older boat and the hoses are likley rotted to the transfer case.

My mechanic will attempt for me, but its never a good sign when they tell you up front your going to be looking at a steep bill of 1,200 plus if we cant get it off.

They are going to need to pull the lower unit in order to replace the transfer case and all 4 hoses.

I usually do all my own work , but was in a hurry to get this back into the water since the season is so close to the end.

I dont have the 1200 to pay for this to be done...so how hard is it to remove a lower unit in order to get at this piece? I have all shop manuals for my outdrive and engine and all the necessary tools.

I don't see why you would HAVE to remove the lower unit....
Raise the drive & support the skeg so when the lines loosen, it doen't fall..
This is a DIY, unless you break or strip them out......
Clean off any loose debris, spray some Kroil on them & let it soak in for a day....
Use the proper wrench or a vice grip if the nut surfaces are too degraded......;)

Ok thanks I will make sure to keep that in mind if they come back to me with a quote for 1200 bucks.

If you're changing them anyway why not cut the tube off of the B nut and use a socket

Soak them over night and try the correct line wrench.....not a regular open end.
