Pulling outdrive for winter

How nessesary is it to pull the outdrive for winterizing? I have a cobro outdrive with a Volvo engine.

For "winterizing" - not at all. For anual maintainance that usually gets done at the end or beginning of the season...the only way to lube up that u-joint is to pull the drive.<br /><br />-JMW

I'll also add that pulling the drive is necessary to do a proper annual gimbal bearing inspection and engine alignment check.<br /><br />AND, if you park your boat outside all winter, many will leave their drives off and in a safe place (garage, basement) to prevent theft.
