fix it

I bought this boat a month ago from a guy who loaned it To his friend. His friend did not tie it up very well and both side of the pulpit got damaged .

what do I need to buy to fix this? There are so many options I don’t know what to get.

Thank you

Hard to see from that one photo, but it appears the fiberglass is gouged and the gelcoat is in need of repair, along with the aluminum rail.

In my opinion It looks pretty deep, and you should grind down to the fresh fiberglass and fix that damage with polyester resin and Chop strand mat, CSM. If not as deep as the photos appear and you’re confident there is no damage to the glass you can fare with reinforced filler, and either gelcoat, or paint the entire pulpit to blend.

when you take photos like that, stand back 6-10 feet further than you think you want to be. we can always zoom in, we cant zoom out.

your going to have to remove the rub rail, fix the fiberglass, re-finish, then redo the rub rail

I concur with the above suggestions as well. Take a few pictures back further and post them. Then we see the damage AND how it looks with a larger view of the hull. But if you decide to repair this, and it can be repaired, you are going to get your first lesson into fiberglass work. But again, it is repairable and you too can do it... JMHO

Being where it is, I think it would not be that difficult to repair and make look like it never happened. But it will take some grinding and sanding and some fiber-glassing efforts to get there. So if you've never worked with polyester resins and fiberglass materials, you are going to learn something repairing it. And yes you will amaze yourself once you get going on it. But fiberglass is a very itchy smelly material to work with and the proper PPE is absolutely needed.

Hello,

I'm repairing one side of my pulpit that was damaged in a storm from the previous owner. The deck has separated from the hull just on the port side of the pulpit. The rub rail was all bent up. I have the rub rail off now and am wondering what kind of adhesive do I use to reattach the deck to the hull? 3M 5200?
