Good day to all out there. I recently bought a bowrider with a Johnson GT150 of which the previous owner removed the VRO pump. As the pump was removed and an electric fuel pump installed after the fuel bulb from the tank, I don't feel comfortable operating the boat like this.

I want to go to the two fuel pump configuration on this outboard, but I can not identify the pulse take off points on the crank case. Can anyone please assist?

Thank you

You will find the 2 ports near the starter motor.-----Look for 2 plugs.

Hello racerone.

Thank you very much for reply. I do not see any plugs, but only two nipples joined with a pipe. Please see attached photo, are these the pulse take off points?

Can you also tell whether or not flash arresters are needed to connect the double fuel pumps to the pulse ports.

Those are the pulse ports for the 2 pumps.----No idea why someone would connect them with a hose.-----The pulse limiter is a FLOW FUSE for the VRO mixing pump.-----The pulse limiter is NOT NEEDED for the regular pumps.----Do a compression test on this motor for future reference.----Post your numbers.------No idea why some one would need to install an electric pump on one of these motors.

Good morning.

I wish all a happy and prosperous new year.

Racerone thank you for the valuable information. I will follow your advice thank you.

Another question, at the rear of the fuel pumps there are two ports that also work together with the vacuum pipe at the bottom to assist in driving the pump diaframs. The mounting points on the crankcase for the two pumps does not have these ports. Do I just leave the ports on the pumps open or do I blank them off?

Thank you

Those pumps are driven by PRESSURE and not vacuum.----Are those ports at the back actually open ?-----Do they look open to you ?-----Part # of the pumps you are installing ?

Good day.

the original part numbers are 039649 (Upper pump) and 0394716 (lower pump). these are actually obsolete and the dealer gave me 0438558 (upper pump) and 0438559 (lower pump). Sorry these pumps are actually close. The gasket that came with it has a hole in the middle, but i do not see the use for a gasket here.

Will be doing the compression test on Monday. Seem like I need a new compression tester as mine is no more functional.

Thanks again for your help.

Correct.-----They use the same piece for for the back of these pumps.----Drill through for the one style of pump and not the other style.---The gasket can be used as a heat insulator.------All simple to me

Hello Racerone.
I trust you are doing fine.

I managed to find a new compression tester today and did the compression test as you recommended.

Cylinders 1,3,4 and 6 -- 72 PSI
Cylinders 2 and 5 -- 71 PSI

Spoke to the previous owner of the boat regarding the electrical fuel pump and he said he went for that because of the outrageous price of the VRO and the genuine fuel pumps. I can not understand how anyone can put money above safety.

He is also the one that connected the two pulse ports with a hose. I removed the hose and capped of the nipples until I receive the last hoses to complete the installation of the two fuel pumps.

Thank you
