Looking to swap out VRO pump for a standard pump 88-90 Evinrude 100xp and go with my own premix. Tried getting help from the dealership here but they are just starting and were more lost then myself. It is a 4 wire VRO anyone know how to figure out what standard pump would work best on this motor with a 50:1 premix....

Re: Pump help

first question is your existing pump still pumping on the fuel side. if so you can use it and block the oil side. very easily done. cost very little.

VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.

if it is not working. get back with me, and i will solve that problem.

Re: Pump help

Thanks for your help. Fuel side is not working boat was sitting for 3 years and ran through all the normal stuff plugs cleaned oil build up in carbs but can get boat running with fuel/oil mix through plugs or carbs and keep it going by pumping ball but a couple of seconds after i quit pumping it all dies again and ball loses its prime fairly new to boats but would assume that is the fuel pump as it is not allowing any to enter motor and no visible holes in any lines...

Re: Pump help

ok so your pump in not working. you can use the actual replacement, pump that you will premix your fuel. Vro Replacement Fuel Pump Kit "no Oil"
(for Using Oil/gas Pre-mix In Fuel Tank)

#5007422 it is in the $300 range.

or you can use on of these. this pump was used on the older 90hp pumps, and a single may work fine with your motor. this is a 3 hose pump, you use the existing pulse hose from the vro to power these pumps. and then just incoming and outgoing premixed fuel lines.
$100 range
Part Number: 0385784
Description: FUEL PUMP AY
Pack 0395712,0398385,0433390,0438559Qty: 1

if the single pump is not enough, you have to use 2 inline pumps. this was done on the older larger motors. like the 135.
