Until my local gal reports, I am waiting to make any plans. This explains why:

According to Stormfax.com, Punxsutawney Phil has only been correct approximately 39% of the time. (About as accurate as the average local weather forecaster?)

Used to get excited like that till frost killed and barely get plums or apples and pears . Three years in a row up in N.E. Ohio .Not much to even share with wild life . Now need chicken wire and electric fence to harvest any garden veggies except Hot Peppers seem to survive unmolested witout fence .

That's not how it is. It's "6 more weeks of winter, or an early spring." Spring begins in 6 weeks. So "early" is less than 6 weeks of winter. Hence the right or wrong of their predictions.

Re: Punxsutawney Phil

shubenacadie sam saw his shadow this morning.....followed shortly by this forecast

15 to 20 centimetres of snow expected by late Sunday evening.

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system will develop southwest of Nova Scotia tonight. Periods of snow will develop ahead of this system overnight. Another low will form in its wake Sunday afternoon and will intensify rapidly overnight Sunday. Snow at times heavy will develop along the western part of the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia Sunday in the afternoon and evening and will spread northward through central and northern sections of Nova Scotia Sunday night. Up to 15 cm of snow is expected in areas bordering the Atlantic coast with 20 centimtres in northern and central sections mainly falling Sunday night. Over Cape Breton and Eastern Mainland Nova Scotia the snow is expected to turn to rain with freezing rain along the rain snow boundary.

Our resident albino ground hog, Wiarton Willie, is siding with Phil this year. Only Sam and Quebec Fred are the holdouts.
