Purple blue? Wires disentegrated that run behind engine

1976 sea ray, 351w mercruser. Just bought and hauled boat to its new home in my driveway (where it is sitting because can not start). It cranks, but will not pop. I noticed some disentegrated wires that may have fell apart during transport. Purple/white wire and a blue wire.... Anyway I was going to replace them, however they seem to travel in and out of a holder of some sort in the back of the transom. I'm not sure if this "holder" serves a purpose like ground or otherwise?? I'm new this message center so bear with me... picture attached. Any ideas what this is??

I am pretty sure those are your trim gauge and trim/tilt wires. Does the outdrive raise and lower from the helm control?

Wire insulation color coding is somewhat standardized. For a wire with insulation of VIOLET and with a stripe of BLUE, I suspect that it is related to ENGINE TRIM UP circuits.

From the look of the wiring in your close-up image, you are going to have more problems than just wire color insulation code identification with that boat.
