push button electric start

I have a '67 Johnson 33hp that I converted to a tiller steering for my fishing rig. The motor has an electric starter. The question I have is whether there is an easier way to wire the electric start with a momentary push button starter rather then using the ignition key switch? I just wanted to simplify my wiring. A diagram would be great if anyone has one.

Wire the push button switch between points 3 and 6.

Yes -- but then you also need a push button to short the ignition to kill the engine and another button to operate the choke. That makes a total of three. Install a push to choke ignition switch and be done with it. The wiring is not that difficult and diagrams are in virtually any service manual in your local public library. Ignition switch wiring is fairly generic.

I would assume he already has a kill button. As for the choke, since it's a tiller steer, there's no advantage to having electric choke.

Thanks. The motor has a manual choke, so no need to worry about that. Also, there is a push button kill switch on the motor pan. Since it is a tiller, there is no need for me to run to the back to try to kill the motor.

If the boat is left unattended in the water you may want to use a small key
start. Or do as I did with my 88 50 hp tiller with factory push button start
and kill switch. Often left for weeks at a time unattended.I hid a little toggle switch low on the outside of the belly pan to interupt the start circuit.
