Put boat on trailer with no winch!

Some guy had fun putting his boat on the trailer with no winch. As his wife was pulling it halfway up the ramp, the "rope" used to hold the thing on the trailer broke free and left the boat half on the trailer/half on the ramp. Luckily it was close enough to the water where it went back in with only a couple of feet of fiberglass/cement contact.<br /><br />For a few dollars you can get a winch strap. If you cant afford that, you shouldnt be boating!!<br /><br />Ken

Nope. Plain old bunks.<br /><br />I dont really use my winch either, but this guy had nothing but a rotten rope to try to hold it on.<br /><br />Ken

I've seen folks load thier boats with no winch (by powering it up), when done right it's impressive and fast but when it all goes wrong... it's even more spectacular!<br />Definately not recommended!

I'm pretty new to boating and the place I trailer my boat at wants you to load this way si I had to powerload my first time getting it onto the trailer. I've been out about 9 times. Last week when I came in I noticed that the winch was comming loose it turns out it was missing a nut that had come loose either from the force of the boat being powered up to the winch or from bumping while on the gravel. luckilly a 3/8 nut fixed the problem and they said it happens all the time. I'm glad I saw this post because I didn't think it was normal to load that way. it is fast and I've gotten pretty good at it as long as you don't miss the mark your up on the trailer hooked onto the winch and out of the water in less than 15 seconds. I don't feel comfortable doing it though.
