I made a big mistake today. I put my 2002 Four Winns H190 in reverse accidently while pulling a skier. I have never done this before and don't quite inderstand how I did it this time but I did none the less. I was out of plane and going about 15 mph when I tried to put the boat in neutral but went too far back and put in reverse. I had it there only a secound but the boat died before I could get it out of reverse. I tried to start the and and it had a low thud sound when it turned over. I tried a second time and the low thud sound again and the the starter began to free spin like I broke some teeth on the flywheel. I am going to drop the boaty of at a local marina tomorrow but I was wondering if this has happend to anyhone else? What kind of damage could have I done and what sort of repair bill I am looking at? I dont want to go to the marina seeming unknowledgable about the situation and repairs?

You may just be hydrolocked from water pushing up the exhaust.
Pull the spark plugs and see if you have water in any of the cylinders. If it won't turn over with the plugs out, pull the outdrive and try the engine.

I got the boat back yesterday and the mechanic said "she was full of water". He drained the water out of the engine, changed the sparks plugs, replaced the starter that I broke and ran the engine. He changed the spark plugs again and ran it a second time. Now she runs like a champ again!! $489 repair bill for being an idiot and not paying attention! lesson learned!

$489 is a small price to pay. I once paid more than that for a 100 hour service on a VP. I didn't know much then.
