Slow machine = cleanup and add a couple gig of memory. Memory is cheap if you're planning on keeping the machine and it will flat speed it up.

Only if you are presently using most of your available RAM. Need to look at Task Manager to see if that is actually happening. Just throwing memory at a slow computer isn't going to solve anything if the computer is slow due to other reasons. If a lot of memory is being used by roque programs, getting rid of them will help the RAM usage all by itself.

Actually it depends, throwing memory at the speed problem is not always the best solution, I just upgraded a computer the other day and added more memory, only to have the computer slow down, it depends on operating systems, mother boards, and data paths, I actually had to dig deeper to get this computer running faster and it ended up we had some mis-configuration that did not take to the higher memory level, but was able to clean it up and use LESS memory to speed it up..

Also another thing you have to be careful of now a days it matching speeds on the memory, if you mismatch simms in terms of speed you can bog a computer down big time..

One thing I learned a long time ago, I don't mix and match different brands of memory, that has caused problems for me in the past as well..
