Put the max HP as indicated by the plate near the rear of your boat.

Re: putting a 200hp on a 2002 trophy

this gets asked all the time, and the answers vary because the underlying question is really more than "can I?" and is usually read as "should I?"

The questions are :
Will it sink my boat because it's too heavy?
Will it damage my transom because it's too powerful?
Will it be dangerous because it's too fast for my hull?
Will this be a violation of my insurance contract?
Will this be a violation of any federal, state or local laws or regulations applicable in my waters?
Will this be considered, or evidence supporting, "unsafe operation of a motor vessel"?

The answers to each of the questions are indenpendent of each other and are specific to YOUR circumstances, no one else's.

i was just wanting to know if the hull could handle the extra weight and hp and if someone has done it before

Max horsepower rating 175 will move it nicely

The manufacturer was kind enough to answer this question for you....

What is it with Americans that we assume that all specifications and limits are lies or conspiracies.

The answer to your questions are yes it could likely cause all of those problems if you ask the people who made the boat

If you search the internet for some guy who did it once then the answer may well be "nah it'll be fine my cousin does it all the time... now hold mah beer I'm gonna try somethin"

It depends. If going to a 200hp requires going up in CID or just weight, than I would say it's not a good idea..
But if you take a look at something like a 175 Evinrude E-Tec, and a 200 E-Tec, they are both 158 Cubic inch powerheads and the weight is identical, so it is obviously tuning making the extra HP and a fairly moot point for the USCG rating.. The 150 also shares the 158 CID block... It's only 15hp

Beyond this, a lot of older motors were built on different displacements to make different HP

This is just my opinion

102_0245.jpg103_6241.jpg100_6068.jpgSplashwell.jpgAs far as the extra weight, stand in the splashwell with the boat at rest now. This will approximate the sitting position with the heavier engine.

Will 25 extra ponies over max rating hurt it? Nah! my cuzzin does it all the time. Hold my beer a sec. LOL

The official iboats forums position is to not approve or recommend overpowering a boat. That doesn't mean it isn't done frequently. Should you decide to do it, please reinforce your transom, similar to what was done in these photos.

Note that a number of years ago, a manufacturer of offshore fishing boats increased the max horsepower rating of their hulls by adding a structural aluminum angle to the top of the transom.
