Above 2000 RPM power steering return line(hose w/clamp)blows off from oil cooler. (No advance notice of impending doom.) 1993, 4.3 Mercruiser LX with 187 hours. Eng. ser.#OFO75410. Boat is very difficult to steer when fluid must be pushed mechanically. New pump did not fix problem. Also, as temp repair would welcome a tip for bypassing hydralic system altogether! Thanks!

Sounds like you need a new Steering Unit.... Theres been alot of them on ebay the last few months... Mostly NOS... Good Prices too....

You Could remove All of the P/S system, But you won't like it....

the oil cooler is clogged .temporarily bypass the cooler and see if the hoses hold the pressure,if so replace the cooler.
