Pyrex Fuel Bowls

1984 Mercruiser 305 228hp Serial No 6260005<br /><br />The above motor has a Pyrex/glass fuel bowl. I have been told they are unsafe and should be replaced with a non glass type, and that they were outlawed in the USA some time back.<br /><br />Could some one comment/confirm/deny please.<br />If they are dangerous, then I will replace mine.<br /><br />Cheers<br />Phillip

Yes the glass top fuel bowl was on a fuel pump once used by merc, It had some sort of stone filter in it, anyway they are no longer in use and I believe no longer available from Merc...I had this style on a 1984 3.0 140hp. I never had a problem with it...but using a inline glass fuel filter is a big not to do.
