thanks to you guys my 1982 blueband is sweeeeet
went out today and the cog on the starter motor has worn down so much it dont connect to the flywheel(ever tried using a pull cord on a 115hp) been trying to get one from uk stores with no luck usa stores want 30 bucks for delivery i dont suppose i could just turn the drive upside down or can it only go in one way or if you have one lying about would your delivery price be cheaper or should i just stick to swimming

changing the subject i have learnt so much reading all your comments (and others of course) i now know enough about outboards

Do you have any motor junkyards over there? You should be able to get a used one.

How about grinding off the top of the gear to get to fresh teeth?

when you figure $30 US delivery, the $100 US doesn't look as bad. he paid $30 US to get it there. it is a part you engine is worthless with out. and you could wait 6 weeks for surface delivery.

The grinding/flipping won't work, as there are tooth relief/ramps in the top of the teeth. Without them, you will tear up the flywheel. Your going to have to pay the price for another
