Q5i Tahoe Trailer Wiring Issue

Ok, so I bought a new car and I intalled the Class 3 hitch last night. After looking into wiring I have decided to go with the 7-way which is what was on my old vehicle. Here's the issue. I had some (very little) sometimes with the trailer not being able to be backed up because the breaks were locked up. Does anyone know why the Tahoe Trailer has a blue wire and not a purple one for the break realease. This is a surge trailer and not electric brakes.

Another thing is... They gave me a 7 to 5 way adapter when I bought the boat and trailer. It appears that it is possible that the blue wire coming off this adapter is going to the e-brake slot on the plug and not the reverse light (middle) one.

I was at tractor supply today and noticed an adapter to swap the two wire depending on the type of trailer brakes you have.

I have decided to install the 7 way receiver end on the car correctly but may have to change the way the plug is on the boat trailer.

Mainly curious if anyone has ever run into this issue?

Re: Q5i Tahoe Trailer Wiring Issue

On my tahoe trailer the reverse wire on the 5 prong is the last pin on the opposite end from the female. If you were to plug it into a four prong adapter the reverse will hang out. I have no "e-brake" slot as there is not one on surge brakes.

Possibly the vehicle is wired incorrectly. If you can't back it up, due to the wiring or a problem with the brake solenoid, place a metal pin in the hole on the trailer to prevent the surge brakes from activating. My trailer came with pin that is attached below the trailer tongue for emergency backing.
