I wanted to take a minute and report back on the winter project. Ezeke and Samo Ott might remember the issues I had replacing the seals (I guess not a rebuild) on my lower unit this winter. I have taken the motor out several times this spring and summer and finally got around to draining the lower unit to see how the lube looked. It looked really good, almost brand new! No trace of water. I can't tell you how impressed I am with the help on this forum. I hadn't changed it sooner because I fixed my buddies 64 9.5 this spring. I had been using it since he wanted to run some gas through it. He hasn't gotten a boat for it yet. So I put my old 55 back on my boat and ran it yesterday for a couple of hours. Drained it this afternoon and really proud of the way it looked. Thanks you guys for all the help.

Re: QD 16 lower unit rebuild results

I, too, know the joy of looking at beautiful CLEAN lower unit oil after a PITA lower unit seal job!:D Congrats on a job well done. That's when you know you have a really nice old motor---there's lots of 'em that run good, but very few with good lower units and even fewer with good lower units that don't leak.
Happy boating,
JBJ
