I have a question regarding the prop on my QD 17. You can see in the pic that the one blade has a pretty good ding in it. Is this enough of a ding to be concerned with balancing issues and if so is there a way to have it fixed. Id like to keep this motor original so I dont want to put an aftermarket prop on. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about the small dimple hurting anything. Maybe a little vibration.. very little. Just file rough edges. You could try a salvage yard and perhaps they'd have a better one, but yours isn't too bad.

K, thanks. I think I'll just clean this one up with a file and give her a go then.

I'm having a tough time trying to figure out what you are concerned about. That prop is fine. I wish mine were all that good.

I read somewhere, pretty sure it was this forum, that these prpos on these old outboards need to be next to perfect or they cause problems. The upper right side of the pic. That blade is beat up pretty bad. It has a chunk missing out of the blade as well. The other 2 blades are almost perfect.

If they have to be perfect, an awful lot of people in this part of the world are in big trouble. Almost a given that you are going to run aground and ding up a prop sooner rather than later. Your prop is fine.

Most any propshop can make it look like new, if that's what your after. New, or new looking props have a way of finding sandbars though.. :)

Nope, not concerned with it looking new. Just wanted to make sure this one was okay and if not where to get it fixed cause I do prefer to keep it original. Seems everyone agrees this one is okay. Thanks.

My fishing buddy had the whole tip of one blade broke off on his 75hp Mercury and you wouldn't know anything was wrong - no vibration at all. In fact, he didn't know it was broken off until he tilted the motor out of the water.
