Hey guys, I was brought 2 of these to try and ressurrect. One seems locked up, and one was very stiff. I PB-blastered 'em for a couple days, and the stiff one is now free and smooth (added some 2 stroke oil to lube), and one is still stuck (flywheel moves very slightly.. I'm assuming ring play on piston, and rings stuck. I'm just gently moving it back and forth and maybe it'll come free someday..haha).. Shifter engages fine in F and R and spins in N when turning prop by hand.

Anyway, I've heard mention of a shock absorber that gets broken and will act like the motor is stuck. I believe I heard that about 5.5's of similar vintage. My '56 parts list/breakdown shows a pinion shaft/shock absorber assembly under the waterpump for 5.5 and 7.5 motors, but not on a 10hp. Is that the shock absorber I'm referring to, and does a '58 model 10hp also not have one? Thanks!

Yea, the shock absorbers are in the 5.5's and the 7.5's 57 and earlier 10's will have the 5 bolt l/u like the 18
