Question about fuel pump

1986 Rinker V170 2.5 120 Had boat out today and for the third straight time, runs really good for 2-3 hours, off and on pulling skiers and tube . Thenlike clockwork, it starts to cut out, like it's starving for gas . It will start back up and I can idle it back. Sometimes it quits when I'm doing this and won't restart. Wait for a minute and starts up and I can run at idle speed again. If I throttle it up, it cuts out. I've gone through all of my filters, replaced my fuel lines, checked my pickup and check valve, and went through my vent hose . I removed the fuel line that goes into the carb and ran it to a clear bottle. It was pumping gas, but it seemed like a lot slower rate than when I checked it cold . Do these mechanical pumps have a chance of losing their ability to pump the more you use it in a day? I'm inclined to think that my pump is going bad. Just was looking for some advice from someone who has seen this before. Thanks .

If you add more gas to the tank, does it run OK? It isn't unheard of for the fuel pickup to break off so all the gas can't be pulled out of the tank.

Hook up a pressure gauge and see what it's doing when the engine cuts out...

GA Boater, I fill up before I go out each time. It does seem to start cutting out about the same time each time I go out . I've checked the pickup in the past, but maybe not close enough. It's an aluminum shaft that reaches down to the bottom of the tank, so it's not broken off .But I'll have to check and see if maybe there's a crack or hole somewhere. Achris, I'll check that out . I'm out of town until Wednesday. I'll let you guys know what I find out . Thanks for the input.

Haven't been back on the water yet, but checked a couple of things. Pickup checked out .No holes or cracks . Also checked fuel pressure . Started her up in the driveway and fuel pressure reads a little over 4 psi . Doesn't increase or decrease with acceleration. Holds pressure when stopped . Thoughts?

Thanks,
Bryan
