I know this may be over kill.. But after refiberglass the hull, stringers and transom would it be a safe idea to just install the Engine, and outdrive to seal the transom hole, and patch gelcoat
than to just plop the boat into the water by the dock for a good 10 hours while i fish to see if there are any water leaks...

any recommendations ?

Re: Question about Leak Testing the boat

if you have done a full gut replacement......you will have gone over every inch of the hull....

you will know the hull intimately. if there is a hole in the hull....you will have painstakingly repaired it and missed nothing.

i could be wrong.....but i dont think its possible to do a gull gut and miss a hole or weak spot in the shell.

if you have any leaks at all, they will be coming from under the rub rail, or the transom /drive hole.
either of those two leakage areas are nothing that the pumps cant keep up with.

but after any restoration project.....there is a period that you intently watch these areas looking for intrusion.

Ok thank you. And thinking about it now. a way i can tell if i have cracks is to put a few bright bulbs inside the boat cover it with a tarp shut the lights off in the garage and look for any glimmers of light that way i can tell where my spider cracks and little pin holes may be .. thanks fella's this forum makes life so much easier and puts my worries at ease
