my carbs were not fully opening up at full throttle. i adjusted the max throttle according to the OEM manual so now they are. my question is; do I now need to re-adjust the max timing. my gut says no because the max timing stop engauges well before the carbs fully open and all i did was allow the butterflies to open completely but I would like a professional or well informed opinion. Re: question about max timing

If the person that previously adjusted the carb linkages got it wrong so that the butterflies did not open all the way at WOT, he also may have set the max timing adjustment wrong too. Max timing is a pretty important setting and I would certainly check it to make sure it is correct. I would even consider doing a complete link and sync just to make sure nothing else was set up incorrectly by that person.

good point!...but in the event that the max timing is set correctly, will re-adjusting the max throttle screw call for re-adjusting the max timing?

Re: question about max timing

I think that the best answer is to say that all link and sync steps/settings are important to do and doing them in the correct sequence, as prescribed by the shop manual, is important too. Every link and sync setting is dependent on all previous settings being done correctly. If one setting is off, all subsequent settings will be off too, even if set according to the manual. In other words, adjusting a setting to spec does not assure that the setting are correct if it is negatively impacted by a previous incorrect setting. Just my experience...
