Hi. I have a 17' Campion bowrider with a 3.0 Mercruiser Engine. Earlier this spring, I installed a new impeller for the water pump. No problems. Today I noticed some gear oil leaking down the bottom of the skeg from the two weep holes right by the nuts that hold the drive on. Any ideals why its leaking from there and what are the weep holes for? Thanks in advance.

Remove the drive so you can see in the front section, drain the gear lube, the pressure check it to about 15 psi and spray soapy water everywhere and see were it bubbles. The bubbles will be coming from the leak. Why it's leaking ?????? it must have got tired of not leaking.

Ayuh,.... There a few seals in that area that could have sprung a leak,...

Pull it, 'n test it like Don explains,...

The weap holes are there to drain water outa the housings, so's they don't freeze, 'n Bust...

Clean 'em out, while ya got the drive apart...
