Ya, you don't wnat to use a wood screw, in 3 weekd you will get a rust streak runing down your helm.

Just pop into a home improvement store and grab a couple stainless screws.

Just be sure to pay for them before you leave the store.:D

Use a #12, pan head, sheet metal screw and beware of what is behind the area you're mounting to...don't want to cut into any wiring in the helm. Good Luck!

I used aluminum pop rivets to mount mine.

Thats dose sort of bring up a question, as far as I know as long as the charge is good and the extinguisher is shaken ever now and then I wasn't aware that it needed changing out.

Re: Question about mounting fire extinguisher to helm

I did a little looking and found out that dry chemical extinguishers (According to NFPA 10) have a 12 year life. There should be a date code stamped on the bottom which indicates the year of manufacture.

and a story for you :

and I quote "When I bought my 1648, a decent sized fire extinguisher was included. Looked pretty good, didn't seem to old. The gauge was in the green, and it didnt look like it had been used.

I ended up coming across a new one cheap, so I picked it up. Out of curiosity, I decided to try the old one. I got about 3 seconds of spray, and it was dead. Gauge in the red. Wouldn't have put out a lighter.

Moral of the story: when in doubt, spend the 15 bucks and get a new one. It might save your life and/or boat."

Well thats why one has to be shaken at a minum of once a summer, the dry powder will settle and clump and if you need it you get nothing but a blast of CO2 or what ever gas drives them. And a brand new one in the box is the very same.
