Hi,
In this video it shows a OB very similar to mine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlNd...F54E51CE8&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=1

Notice the the stream of water coming from the OB at 28sec into the video.
Question is what if nothing comes out from there?
What is it for?
How do I fix this if I need to?

I've seen water stream out from there when riding in the water but when I out the muffs on and run it on land I don't have that stream coming out.
Now nothing comes out from there.
Could it be clogged?
Thanks for the help guys.
I'm new to boating and trying to learn all I can about what I have.

My OB model number is J70elcte.
Johnson 70 seahorse.
Thanks again everyone

Re: Question about my 70hp Johnson

That is the motors telltale, you must have water flow from there AT ALL TIMES whilst running, otherwise do not run the motor or it will most likely overheat. If yours does not it is either blocked or your impeller/water pump need to be replaced, the impeller really should be done every season or two anyway and requires removal of the lower unit.

Check for blockages in the plastic fitting and associated tubing first and go from there.

Re: Question about my 70hp Johnson

Thanks for the response.
I opened up the top of the OB and traced the tube.
There was a kink in the tube.
Looks like somebody zip-tied it a little to tight.
I cut the zip tie off and ran the motor with the muffs on.
Now I see the water stream!!!
Thanks for the info.
Now the water is coming out really nice and strong!

still a good idea to replace the impeller every few years, and the gearcase oil every year.
