Question about prop performance

Hello, I recently bought a 1995 Rinker 212 Open bow with a 4.3 Mercruiser. It currently has a 23 pitch stainless prop installed. I have had the boat (first one) for about a month now and as I learn more about it, I have more questions. While cleaning it up after a night on the lake I began to inspect the prop. I noticed that the outer edges of the prop looked like they had been ground or sanded on. After doing a little thinking, it dawned on me. Most likely, the previous owner probably got into some shallow water and "shined" the prop up. I would imagine that he probably ground the rough edges off and then sanded it down to make it look better. I noticed that this modification took some of the "cup" out of the blades.

My question is this. Should I have the prop "re-cupped" or re-worked or whatever you do to them? I am really wondering if this mod to the prop is effecting my performance.

Re: Question about prop performance

Tell us about your performance.Details wot rpm and speed. How is the hole shot?
Any vibration.Hold a pointer near the blade tips and rotate the prop.
A prop shop can tell you if the prop needs work.

Well this is the first boat that I have owned but I believe that the hold shot could be better.. What do you guys think about the way the prop looks?

Pretty hard to see but looks superficial to me. Your hole shot would be a little sluggish with a 23" pitch. We need hard numbers to tell where your at.
"Hole shot could be better" doesn't tell much.wot rpm and speed would tell a lot.

That looks fine to me. I'm no expert, but it actually looks pretty clean. regarding Hole Shot, I have a 206 so a foot less, but I find the best combo of top end and hole shot to be a 21 pitch. I have ran a 19, 21, and 23 and the 21 gives me the best of both worlds.
