Friends,

When someone takes a prop, say a 27 Renegade and re-works it to a 26, what are you thought? Would you purchase it, why or why not?

Really look forward to hearing from as many as can!

Thanks,

Mike

I probably wouldn't because it was made as a 27 so I think turning it to a 26 would throw things out of whack but then again I am a noob at a lot of this stuff.

Re: Question about "Re-Worked" Props...

The Mercury Racing guys tell me that they can change pitch up to one inch. They have re pitched/labed a prop for me with excellent results.

How it comes out in terms of proper operation depends on the expertise/experience of the person doing the work. My local prop shop is a waste of time.

Changing pitch does not always involve bending the blade. Changing the shape/amount/location of cup changes the pitch.

If it is done right it would be fine. Myself, I would just find a 26 that has not been changed.

I wouldn't hesitate if it was done by a reputable shop. A lot of times a worked prop is better than a factory new one if the shop that worked it knew what they where doing. You would be surprised how many props from quality manufactures are off right out of the box. Sometimes as much as a 1.5" in pitch difference between blades.
