My husband has a 1989 Johnson 150 engine. Recently his regulator/rectifier melted. We looked up the part # on Johnson's website and found a couple different places to order from. When we received the part it was different from the original. I have called several places to find out why the difference and no one seems to know but tell me it is a replacement part for the original.

The part # is 395204. The original has 5 wires (1 red, 2 yellow, 1 gray and 1 purple). The part we recieved has 4 wires (1 red, 2 yellow, and 1 gray). Does anyone have any insight on this.

Also we are trying to figure out why this happened? Could it be from water not running through engine properly?

Any information is well appreciated. Please e-mail me mdturtle1976@aol.com

Thanks

Re: Question about regulator/rectifier

The newer rectifier/regulators do not use the purple wire which turned them on. Just install it and tape up the purple connector. These are known for failure and small fires sometimes!!! Omc/Brp recommends that you do not hook a onboard battery charger to starting battery and wing nuts replaced with nylon lock nuts.
