question about shaft lengths

i have a 71 glastron with a 20 inch transom the motor that came off the boat is a 71 johnson 125....it appers the shaft length is 20 inches as well my question is can i put a 25 inch shaft motor on my boat and what if any problems might i encounter from doing so? thanks for the quick replys as i am suppose to pick up the 25 inch motor today.....

It will cause problems with planing, trimming, and top speed.

That isn't the way to go, tcamps. You will likely have a big 'rooster tail' behind the boat, not to mention the problems roscoe mentioned. Look into a jack plate or some other method to get the anti-ventilation plate level with the bottom of the hull. Good luck!

A jackplate will put you in the ballpark. Its done a lot. Just keep in mind you center of gravity will be 5-6" higher. That may not be a concern unless you have a GT150 or GT160 Glastron and you start to chime walk.<br /><br />Good luck!
