Hello everybody
I want to ask if it is possible to set the timing (by ear)wrong and the engine still works at idle good without indicating that something is going wrong.I am asking this because when i dissasembled the distributor at tdc the rotor looked the #6 point instead of #1(not absolutely sure). My initial problem is i can't ran at high rpm.(i know it may be a fuel delivery problem and i can't find temporarily a timing light).
And something else,
What may mean black water when taking out the hoses through the starboard side manifold?

You never ever want to set the timing by ear. Way too easy to damage your engine. Don't run your engine until you obtain a timing light.

Your rotor was probably pointing at #6 because you were at the top of the exhaust stroke, not the compression stroke for cylinder #1.

A Rich Fuel Circuit for whatever rpm range you've managed to get it Running at.........

And,...... I Agree,... Timing by Ear is usually a Major Disaster,.... Especially if done at Idle......
Done at WOT, in Gear, you stand a slim chance of getting it Right.....................
