Went to look at a boat today, 86 sea nymph sc160 has a 86 40hp Johnson on it, and had this pump, i'm guessing, sticking up beside the motor, never seen one before, can someone explain. Thanks.

Very interesting. That's a tilt/trim cobbled up that doesn't belong on that motor. It's for a 1974-ish V-4.

Nope---That unit came on the 2 cylinder motor.-----Pump and motor have been mounted to get them away from water !

Well I'll be hornswaggled and corrected, you are right. I've never seen one of those.

And why do you say it is " NOT THE SAME ".--------The motor / pump is normally mounted on the bracket.----But it can be mounted higher or even inside the boat to get the motor away from water.

If you're asking me, it's because I didn't know what it was.

I will stop with the questions about this motor, I bought a 90 sea nymph fish and ski with a 75merc 850 that doesn't work, floor has some soft spots, but the price was right, now it's mine.
