What is up with all the "Winterizing" topics? Is it due to fact that its cold or the many months of nonuse? Anyhow I'm from california. Is there a need for me to "Winterize" my boat even though i may use it once a week throughout the winter season? And when i go on vacation for months at a time, do i have to "Vacationize" it? I'm not trying to be silly. Please educate me.

You can 'winterise' the same way i do, put on a sweater if it gets a bit cool. :D

You only need to winterise a boat if you live in an area that gets below freezing. The liquids in the engine/outdrive expand and can crack blocks/heads/heatexchangers etc.

Aldo

The winterization is for those of us that have cold winters, where the block and gear case will freeze and crack. Also for the many months of nonuse, that is why we fog the motors and put stabil in the gas.

If you are using it once a week, no worries. If it is going to sit for several months, you might put some stabil in the gas. :D

Thanks for your knowlege and wisdom. Once again i learn something new. Goes to show, a brain is never full. Moving right along.
So my understanding is (I think) while i sit on a beach watching the hulla girls dance, throwing pebbles into the wave, drinking corona, rubbing suntan lotion on some hottie i've never met before, I need not worry about my neglected boat sitting in the drive way!!!!! If this is correct, please say so......

My 17ft boat sit's on a trailer in my yard. In Ireland it gets below freezing at night during the winter. It's dead easy for me to fire my Yam F40 4-stroke up for 15-20 mins once a week on the hose and change the fuel in the portable tank every couple of weeks. I've already done my crank case oil & filter and gear oil changes.

I'm planning to go with this all winter. I figure it will also keep my battery charged. I can't see a down side to this strategy.

C mac, your procedures make alot of sense. I will try that only one very very small problem. I have to find someone to do that for me when i'm away.
Hell with it. I'll take the chance. Worst case scenorio, a new engine. Keeps the economy going.

VIPZACH--I think you miss quote me. Scroll up and read again. Second time a charm...
