Does a two stroke outboard give any indication that it has too much total timing? Aside from total failure or melt down. If so what side effects may you notice other than the worst case senario? Can an audiable noise be heard like the ping you here from a 4 stroke automotive application with too much total timing?

Re: Question for Dhadley

It might run really good. For a split second. Some people say they can hear the pinging. We've advanced the timing on dyno outboard motors to the point of meltdown (on purpose) and not heard anything. Youll feel a vibration and then a sickening screech.
