Hello Joe , I've been thru the search engine regarding all the posts regarding the Clipper of the early OMC outboards . No one has really put the question to rest as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering if you would for future people who have a problem. (Engine I have is a 1971 60 Hp)Evinrude

Can the Clipper be eliminated ?

Are there any wires that need to be switched on the terminal panel if you eliminate the Clipper?

Joe
Thanks for your input on this

ED Jablonski

Re: Question for Joe Reeves

The clipper circuit was designed to protect the powerpack from voltage surges. However, it proved to be more trouble than it was worth. OMC at some later point came out with a bulletin detailing that it be eliminated.

All later models with the same type ignition (Battery Capacitance Discharge) simply had 12 volts being fed directly to the powerpack when the key was in the ON position (No Clipper).

Bottom line..... remove the clipper.
